(Lawrenceville, Ga., March 20, 2012) – The County will use state and federal funds to buy and demolish 11 homes that were damaged in the floods of 2009. Commissioners on Tuesday accepted a federal grant for $2.1 million to cover three-quarters of the cost plus $212,546 in state funds. The property owners involved will contribute the remaining 15 percent. The county will use the properties as open greenspace to restore natural floodplain functions.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 8, 2012) – Celebrate this Valentine's Day by joining other couples at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the old Justice of the Peace Office (Room 103) where Magistrate Court judges will perform Valentine's Day wedding ceremonies and special ceremonies to renew wedding vows. Couples who are getting married must obtain a valid marriage license prior to Feb. 14 and bring the original marriage license to the ceremony. Couples will not be able to obtain a marriage license at the Historic Courthouse. Contact Probate Court at (770) 822-8250 for information on obtaining your marriage license. Couples who are renewing their wedding vows do not need to bring a copy of their wedding license. All services are free and no appointment is necessary.

(Gwinnett County, Ga., November 23, 2011) – Electric portable heaters (UL tested) are desperately needed to help keep Gwinnett seniors warm this winter. This is the third year Gwinnett County Senior Services (GCSS) and the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services are working together to provide heat assistance to senior citizens through Project AWARE (Added Warmth Assistance for Residences of our Elderly).

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 12, 2011) – The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources reminds residents and businesses to conserve water during the current drought. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers predicts that Lake Lanier’s level will drop below 1060 feet by mid-October, which is more than 10 feet below full pool. “Residents need to be aware that we are in another drought and remember how important it is to save water since we don’t know just how much rain we’ll get this winter,” said Lynn Smarr, Acting Water Resources Director.
